When forwarding my application for 4 months vacation

leave I stated for the information of His Exceleancy that I proposed (

to retire from the service at the expiration of any leave which

might be granted to me.

I have bad over 21 years service under the Hong-Kong

Government and am retiring before I have qualified for a pension

and it is ay intention on my arrival at home to apply to the Secre-

-tary of State for some consideration of my case with a view to my

being granted an extension of leave on half pay and an honorariun /

and I have the honour to ask that His Excellency the Governor may

te pleased to forward a copy of this letter to the Colonial Office

together with such recommendation as he may be pleased to make on

ay behalf.

I entered the service in October 1374 having beea

telegraphed for from home ty His Excellency Sir Arthur Kennedy

and my first appointment was a Clerk in the Colonual Secretary's Offl

since when I have gradually risen to the office I now bold.

Trusting that His Excellency may be pleased to give me

bis good offices in this matter in view of my long service and that

be will recommend me to the Secretary of State for whatever can te

reasonably granted to me.
